REVIEW: Dark Octaves Of Sin Debut Single's BLASPHEMY and NOT YOUR SLAVE

Today we have a group hailing from Chandigarh, who never looked back once they started the journey of music and didn't require much time to find recognition in the local scene. Well its none other than Groovy/Deathcore influenced Dark Octaves of Sin(D.O.S). Its clearly understandable from the bands point of view that they realized they have the potential to fuse genre's into one compact sound. Recently they have released two tracks Blasphemy and Not Your Slave. And I was anxious to check them out after they got shortlisted for Winter Rock Festival.

Blasphemy, right from the very first second we have a groovy riff which kinda reminds me of Chimaira. With riff's and drum patterns all over the place, vocals manage to raise the bar of the song. A pretty cool variation of growls and screeches by Ankit is indeed appreciable. Since I have heard a lot about them, expectations were indeed high as always, but I was disappointed since song loses the track towards the middle section. What really surprised me was an insane riff and bass line after the 2 minutes mark. Man that deserves an applause. The song picks up again after a slow breakdown. And we have double patterns executed quite well over the riff's. You have to appreciate the way the song is arranged. You can call it as Chimaira meets Lamb Of God. It has that melody element which was interesting.

Not Your Slave on the other side is filled with groovy notes with deathcore approach. Here you get to hear the different side of the band and band seems to be influenced by Suicide Silence and arrangement wise it reminded me of earlier approach of AILD. Vocals are perfect and its indeed great to have a band amalgamizing their sounds and come up with different stuff. Production wise its a pretty descent effort, although we get to hear lot of loud crunchy guitars, vocals sometimes sound flat. But considering their sound and approach I still believe they have a lot more potential and can come up with more creative work. Outro of this song is phenomenal. Man I still have that riff galloping my mind. Amazing work indeed.
Dark Octaves of Sin is surely another band who can do wonders in Indian Metal Scene. Although structure wise they have done a great job but it fails to justify more than two listens. When a group from different backgrounds have the skill to mix many genres into one zone and come up with insane work then its understandable that there is something you get to hear which is UNIQUE and at the same time have the capacity to transform their sound into a zone which many bands tend to ignore. That's where I felt D.O.S lacks the punch. They need to work and I wish I had access to their lyrics because strong thoughts and sound can indeed help fans to understand the bands point of view in a precise way. After listening to both songs I honestly felt confused whether they have the same old sound which we been listening to from years OR a group with fresh ideas and innovative skills. Having won many competitions along with these 2 tracks, they surely have skill to beat the odd's.
