At ROCKAVARIA from May 27 to 29 all fans of heavy music will find their sound: from classical Metal to Crossover, from Doom to Thrash, from Hard Rock to Stoner. The Festival at the Munich Olympic Park boasts a top-class, full-tilt program with big names, Underground bands and the new hot bands of the scene. 3-day festival tickets as well as day tickets are available on www.myticket.de and www.ticketmaster.de.
The new bands to supplement the international concert line-up around the legends Iron Maiden, Slayer and Nightwish include several select acts of all genres, such as the two-man Doom army Mantar, enjoying a high profile because of their impressive and intensive show. Or the Comedy Metal band JBO, four heroes in pink who have guaranteed fun in banging for more than two decades already. Dog Eat Dog were amongst the first bands to merge Hardcore and Rap; today the Crossover kings from New Jersey make the crowds go crazy with stunners such as “No Fronts” and “Who’s The King”. John Garcia in turn has published great records with Kyuss; now he honors the ROCKAVARIA with his solo band.
The diversity of the program is further underlined by the engagement of such diverse acts as the Essen-based Trancecore brigade To The Rats & Wolves, the highly acclaimed Indie rockers The Raglans from Dublin as well as Black Vulpine, a Stoner Doom quartet from Dortmund. They join a terrific billing for which, amongst others, luminaries such as Iggy Pop, In Extremo, Powerwolf, Anthrax, Sabaton, Mando Diao, Garbage and the Grammy award winners Ghost have already been engaged. ROCKAVARIA will also include the Germany premiere of the already legendary Hard Rock movie “Gutterdämmerung”, in which some of the greatest icons in the history of Rock‘n’Roll, such as Lemmy Kilmister, Iggy Pop, Guns N‘Roses guitarist Slash and Queens of the Stone Age band leader Joshua Homme perform. The film visuals are enhanced live by a five-piece Hard Rock band plus singer, and as a narrator co-author and Punk Rock veteran Henry Rollins is likewise live on stage.
THE STAGES:
ROCKAVARIA will rock the Olympic Park in Munich for three days. With an improved concept, in which the experiences of last year have been integrated, there will be a large double stage in the stadium whilst the floating lake stage invites to chill on the turf steps of the open Coubertin square. Perfect festival atmosphere is guaranteed with the generous parking spaces and relax areas.
THE FULL LINE-UP
As headliner of the spectacular festival line-up Iron Maiden will celebrate in Munich the show of their “The Book of Souls” World Tour; they can only be experienced at ROCKAVARIA and Rock im Revier apart from the sold-out Wacken and Berlin! The British Heavy Metal legends recently reached with their album “The Book of Souls” immediately the top of the charts in more than 40 countries. As another sensation Iggy Pop, whose new album “Post Pop Depression” will be published on March 18, does the honors in Munich. He has been celebrated by his fans since the ‘sixties as one of the most eccentric artists of all times due to his dynamic to excessive stage presence; he will perform his only festival-concert in Germany in 2016 at ROCKAVARIA!
They will be joined by newcomers on the program such as the Finnish Apocalyptica, who have caused a sensation for the past two decades because they play Heavy Metal on cellos as well as Kadavar (Germany), who are among the spearheads of the ongoing retro boom. Already since the early eighties Suicidal Tendencies have bridged the gap between Hardcore Punk and Metal. The diversity of ROCKAVARIA is, moreover, manifesting itself in the engagement of the Frankfurt-based Punks Serum 114, the radiorockers Prime Circle from South Africa and the stoner-heroes The Shrine from California. Already last year the number one bands Nightwish, Slayer, In Extremo and Powerwolf were confirmed, together with other acts such as Sabaton, Mando Diao, Anthrax, Ghost, Tremonti, Gojira, Gotthard, The Wild Lies, Raven Age as well as tuXedoo, the winners of last year’s band contest. Further artists will follow.
THE FILM:
In an epic cast “Gutterdämmerung” staged as a trashy music fairy tale and Hard Rock live event, moreover unites some of the legends of Rock. They include Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, who recently passed away, cult rocker Iggy Pop, Guns N‘Roses guitarist Slash, Queens of the Stone Age band leader Joshua Homme as well as his bandmate and Eagles of Death Metal singer Jesse Hughes, together with Slayer bassist/singer Tom Araya, Grace Jones, Nina Hagen and several others. The story is about an innocent world without, sex, drugs and Rock‘n‘Roll, in which God has deprived mankind of the e-guitar as the sin itself – until it gets loud again on earth thanks to a fallen angel (Iggy Pop) and the gloomy characters of the underground…
