In the world of metal drummers, one of the most popular names to crop up is Mike Portnoy, famous for his work with Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, The Neal Morse Band, and The Winery Dogs, among many others. Recently, his son, Max Portnoy, has also stepped into the limelight to showcase his natural ability as a drummer with his band Next To None.
Metal Wani writer Sandra Yeomans had the opportunity to chat with both of the Portnoys, covering a variety of subjects. The Interview is divided into 2 Parts. They discussed Next To None’s upcoming tour with Metal Allegiance and writing new material, as well as Mike’s recent recordings with The Neal Morse Band, and his past experience working with legendary bassist Tony Levin. They also explored drum gear, preventing injuries, the father/son dynamic as fellow drummers, and so much more.
