Who’s afraid of clowns? Well, Sweden’s Avatar are back in all their colorful glory to scare even the ones who don’t usually suffer from coulrophobia. But even if you scream and shake, nothing is as thrilling as being invited to a weird circus with owls, bees, eagles and Johannes Eckerström, since he drags the listeners into Avatar‘s world of fables, heavy riffs and unique artwork, with their brand new concept masterpiece.
Even though the band is currently travelling the US, the charming front-clown took the time for a little chat about the surprising concept behind ‘Feathers & Flesh’ and the moral of the – slightly sad – story about an owl being on a mission to stop the sun from rising. But he also granted insight into his lifelong interest in fairy tales and his love for the bad guys, and explains why Avatar are always looking for new ways to reinvent themselves, yet still see many possibilities to explore their crazy circus style. He discusses his point of view on humanity and why people rarely seem to be able to make wise decisions and in the end, some villains end up as the good ones – it’s only a matter of perspective. At the end he reveals Avatar‘s tour plans for Europe and tells a funny anecdote around a promo picture that he shot with Tim Tronckoe in a swimming pool.
